Camper conversion power unit.

Hi, my camper conversion has a power disripution unit that would normaly be found in a caravan. It has two positions for the battery supply. One is Van (caravan), this is the supply that is powered from the liesure battery and the supply is constant from this battery when selected. The second position is car, I expected this to supply 12v when selected from the vehicle starter battery at all times when selected. But it only does this when the engine is running. If used as it was intended ie wired via the 12s socket if it were in a caravan I would expect this to be the case. However as the liesure battery is linked to the vehicle charging cicuit via a split charging relay being charged when the engine is running, I may as well leave the switch to liesure battery (van) as when the engine is running it is powering the 12v equipment & charging the LB via the split charger anyway. When stopped the 12v system will continue to be powered via LB anyway. So whats the point in wiring in the starter battery to select it in the car position?
