Cooling system - Over cautious or sensible

Post by cushers » Sat May 23, 2015 1:41 pm

Hi
I have heard now of a couple of people replacing all coolant hoses on vehicles of similar vintage and spec to mine (95 2.5 TD). As my main hoses are hard, and I was going to be getting them replaced, I wondered whether it would be a prudent step?

If so, is the set that can be bought in the shop everything that I would need and include and metal ones?
Would you do pumps and rad too?
How would you prioritise their replacement?

Sorry for the continued newbie questions but could do with some advice.

Well all the pipes metal or rubber are probably 20 years old! But you need to look as maybe someone has done some in the past ?
Its probably best to inspect the pipes and prioritise after looking at them and there state, but certainly its not unheard of people replacing the lot, pipes, radiator, pump.

Cheers Geoff,

Sounds like a plan. I suppose if some rubber hoses are on their way out, it is fair to suppose that the others are too. I feel an email to Ian coming on (after I get the front and rear cross members sorted, and then maybe the rear sills but the latter are more cosmetic)

In preparation for THIS tour we had a lot of the cooling system renewed:

Radiator
Radiator cap
Expansion tank cap (so you know it blows at the right pressure)
Fan switch (crucial for switching the fans on at the right time)
Thermostat
Water pump
Most of the rubber hoses, the ones that get properly hot anyway
Steel heater pipe, driver's side
Autobox supply & return pipes, driver's side
Steel heater pipe over top of gearbox

While the system is down you may as well do the lot. All the above were done with genuine Mazda parts, some but not all the hoses in the club shop are pukka Mazda ones

We stock all of these in the Bongo Shop. All are genuine Mazda parts except for the Waterpump, Top Rad Hose, Bottom Rad Hose, Top Engine Hose, Rear Engine Hose and Rear Heater Rubber Hose (over starter motor). E mail for special rates on a job lot.
