Bone shaking rattle

Post by Nutcase » Sat May 02, 2015 8:16 pm

A bone shaking rattle has recently arrived on my bongo but it only happens when setting off, ie biting point.

If you set off a bit steadier it's fine or raise the rpm to 1500 plus it's fine but if you try to set off normally with the normal revs it shakes you to death an the noise is quite loud too.

It doesn't do it on tick over in 1st 2nd or 3rd or if setting off on a slight decline.

I've had a look and can't see anything loose really, the noise appears to be from engine to the rear, cant locate any precise area, it's 4wd too.

Any ideas or anything to check, cheers guys

Is it manual or auto? Has anything else happened or been done to it prior to the problem starting, such as fitting new tyres?

It's a manual and nothing has been touched, just had a look at prop shafts, they seem solid.

check the free play on the slave cylinder arm, sounds like the thrust bearing or pressure plate prongs may have broken up, or a broken spring on the friction plate.
the clutches on the manual box are quite poor, mine needed full three part replacement, plus the master seals, and the slave cylinder, and a full fluid change before it would work right when i first bought it.
was it working ok before the noise appeared.

It would probably also be worthwhile checking All the engine/gear box/T box /shaft mountings and fixtures.

PS and the bell housing bolts/nuts.
