MOT advisories
Just looking at purchasing, but the Bongo we've looked at has quite a number of advisories and a stuck on warning light for ABS. Just wondered if anyone had any advice as to whether these things would be expensive to put right. Not mechanically minded do it would need to be done in a garage. The things noted are;
Windscreen damage less than 10mm
Worn front brake disc
Track rid end ball joint dust cover deteriorated (near side & offside)
Centre flexi exhaust minor leak
Rear cool spring corroded
Rear pads thin
Constant velocity joint gator deteriorated
Rear tyre wear
Sill corrosion
Sounds like a scary list to me but I have no idea about these things! Would be grateful for any advice.

Re: MOT advisories
Hi,
Sorry, but if it was me I would walk away from that one. The thing that worries me more than anything else would be the sill corrosion. Sills are repairable, but depending which sill is rotten, it could be that the rear heater has started to leak (which is inside the sill behind the drivers door) and the sill has corroded as a result of that. If so it possibly does not bode well for the rest of the cooling system. If not caused by the above, it could also indicate that tinworm has started to attack the rest of the vehicle - check the rear wheelarches very carefully.
A list of advisories like that would ring alarm bells with me for another reason as well - how much time has been spent on maintainance of the rest of the vehicle?

Re: MOT advisories
Thank you- that's where my thinking was going. It's not expensive but not cheap enough given the cost of the work needed. Seller is lovely and genuine, just put a new mot on but I'm not going to have repair funds after I've spent out to buy it. Think I will keep looking.Gasy wrote:I'd keep looking ( depending on the price of that one )

Thanks Peter - really helpful to know. I'm not going to take the risk. May the search continue! I will find the right one eventually.BigPanzer wrote:Hi,

Re: MOT advisories
Good luck! Have you looked on the for sale pages on this forum?
It might be worth waiting till the end of the summer - everybody is wanting their Bongo weekends away at this time of year so prices are a bit higher and there are less good vehicles around.
I know it is a hard thing to do, but a good Bongo is well worth waiting for.

Re: MOT advisories
I know its hard, you read the forum every day about people out and about and enjoying the Bongo life, and all you want to do is join in. You then look at a Bongo after Bongo hoping the next will come up to scratch, but you will get there trust me, we have just been through it all, the very clean rusters, and the Mot barge polls
...........as has been said, hold on to your money untill you are happy with price and condition.
Happy hunting
Ps what is price range you have to play with? PM if you don't want to put on public forum.

Re: MOT advisories
Thank you guys
I will keep going! It is disappointing but not nearly as disappointing as buying a banger and loosing all my cash. It's fantastic to be able to come here for advice so I don't make that mistake! I did wonder about waiting till the autumn, guessing demand is just going to go up now into the summer.
We're on the lower end budget wise so it will be an older van, spending up to around £4000.

where abouts in the country are you, someone with experience may be able to help check it for you when you find one.

Re: MOT advisories
Personally I have never met .. spoke .. or communicated with the guy .. but I see him post on Forums .. Face book and I often refer to his Blogs for sound advise ..
I am not a fan of garages .. But any dealer freely passing on advise / knowledge / information .. helping the guy in the street shows good ethics .. in my opinion well worth supporting ..!!
Not some fast talking guy who thinks he is doing ..you .. a favour in selling what he has in stock rather than what you want ..
Locks up .. goes home in the evening .. maybe never to be heard by Joe Puplic (unless there is money to be made) ..!!

I've heard good things about Allan's previously. Was planning on booking any vehicle I bought in with him. I don't think he sells vehicles though?
