Engine Knocking (like piston gone) but no smoke?

Post by manwithsound » Fri Apr 24, 2015 2:41 pm

Hi there,

Bob, (my bongo) has decided to start knocking (like a piston has gone) but, i've had this happen before on a van and black smoke billowed out the back and i lost power. I still have all the pull and no smoke out the back (noy even grey/blue on start up)

I'm massively confused, any ideas anyone?

Recently had full service too !

Cheers J

Possibly a Red Herring, but could it have got some wrong fuel in it?
Take a torch, toilet roll, and tea bags.

Didn't want to send you the wrong way, but all avenues...

Let's hope someone has some more ideas. [-o<

its a bit of a shot but. is the oil warning light on or pulsing,
what brand of oil filter was fitted.???. they have a pressure relief valve inside, if the filter gets blocked or is faulty ive heard them bang quite loud , admittedly, not this loud but check its not just a duff filter, they can get crushed when a muppet uses the wrong strap to tighten em on.

after that i would pull the rocker cover off and check the valves/shaft is all fine, they are known to break rockers, and the shafts can break in pieces, usually under the bearings so you cannot see the break but some of the valves/rockers dont move. ive seen 2 run really well with broken shafts.

If you take the air filter lid off is there a popping noise? One guy who looked at mine diagnosed a dropped valve when he heard this noise, but I'm still waiting on the garage to actually get their finger out and strip my engine down to find out for sure
