Bongo exhaust pipes
My exhaust tail pipe fell off my 2.5L Bongo today and the back box looks like it needs replacing.
My questions are these:
Where is the best place to get exhaust pipes?
How much will I be looking at paying and are there any pitfalls I need to watch out for??
Thanks

Re: Bongo exhaust pipes
Depends on what you want ..
If you intend to do it yourself .. full or part exhausts are easily available ..
http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from= ... x&_sacat=0
The same goes for a garage / exhaust fitter .. but what they charge ..???

eurocarparts doing a back box for £35.40,check the full system for condition its always better to replace faulty part at the same time.
Good Luck.

Re: Bongo exhaust pipes
Or go for a stainless steel system where the back box isn't the size of an oil drum and doesn't weigh half a ton.

I have just had a full stainless fitted by Phil from Unique Exhausts Ltd Unit 4 St. Albans Rd, Stafford, Staffordshire, ST16 3DTTelephone - 01785 215111 E-Mail - [email protected]
This guy is a legend I have known people to travel from Southampton to get him to do the work . His price for a full exhaust on my 2.5 TD was very reasonable compared to the big company's.

I had a stainless system fitted by Tony Banks in Leeds came out at about £100 more than a standard system but with a lifetime guarantee.

The only thing I would add is that if you do use Tony Banks just make sure he has fitted all the right bits in the right order - I had to go back and make him fit a new flexi section right at the front of the system, instead of just in front of the rear axle and after the first support rubbers.philpdr wrote:I had a stainless system fitted by Tony Banks in Leeds came out at about £100 more than a standard system but with a lifetime guarantee.
Until then the resonance & noise made the Bongo impossible to travel in.

Re: Bongo exhaust pipes
Tony fitted a full catback system on my Bongo a couple of weeks ago and I've just done a 600 mile road trip without any worries. Maybe he learned from your experience?

It was one of the young guys there who fitted it.
It really resonated through the whole car until they fitted a second flexi between the engine and the first supports. I wish I had insisted on a front resonator box as well - my system only has a back box and is quite loud at certain revs.
But then I wasn't there when they fitted it.
Good system - but could have been better.

Re: Bongo exhaust pipes
I also bought a stainless system from Tony Banks via ebay way back in 2008 & that didn't fit at all. I had to pay to get JanSpeed to modify it & fit an extra flexi section to get it to align correctly. The back box snapped off after about 6 years but I posted it back to him & he fixed it under the lifetime warranty, so I can't fault the aftersales. Lesson learned: use a local supplier who can sort out problems much easier.
This was how it initially failed to line up:

This was the bend that had to be cut out to get it fit:

This was the finished job:

Mine's been on 3 years now with no problems.scanner wrote:The only thing I would add is that if you do use Tony Banks just make sure he has fitted all the right bits in the right order - I had to go back and make him fit a new flexi section right at the front of the system, instead of just in front of the rear axle and after the first support rubbers.philpdr wrote:I had a stainless system fitted by Tony Banks in Leeds came out at about £100 more than a standard system but with a lifetime guarantee.

Re: Bongo exhaust pipes
I noticed the problem in 3 minutes and to be fair they didn't quibble (much) about adding an extra flexi in the right place. It has now been on for a couple of years and yes, no (more) problems.philpdr wrote:Mine's been on 3 years now with no problems.scanner wrote:The only thing I would add is that if you do use Tony Banks just make sure he has fitted all the right bits in the right order - I had to go back and make him fit a new flexi section right at the front of the system, instead of just in front of the rear axle and after the first support rubbers.philpdr wrote:I had a stainless system fitted by Tony Banks in Leeds came out at about £100 more than a standard system but with a lifetime guarantee.
