I have never heard mine operate when the engine is running or when i stop the bongo. Can everyone else hear theres when driving or when just stopped
Can anyone tell me what temp the engine bay needs to rise to before the thermostat under the handbrake that protrudes in to engine bay will tell the scavenger fan to work
I have looked in my workshop manual and its not much help on this issue, and i have ran a search for scavenger on this forrum and came up with around 6 hits(1 of which was very usefull).I can not find alot on this problem so i thought i would throw it open to the techies out there.
Any thoughts

Now you come to mention it adam i havent heard mine for a month or two,i suspect the ambient temperature may feature into when the scavenge fan kicks in, i definitely hear mine in the summer time, especially after ive let the engine run for a few minutes after a long run. You can feel it more than actually hear it, you can tell this because of the absence of rumble when the ignition is switched off.

You may not have heard it because they are very quiet in operation.

The fan is quite noisy, so I'm sure you'd hear it when it comes on. You could try shorting out the sensor to check the fan works. I have a feeling the fan is on a seperate fuse, so you may want to check that too.

Tried that today and the fan does work when the contacts are shorted out and i can clearly hear the fan. So am i been paranoid about never hearing the fan in normal circumstances

Can any one else hear theres at this time of year

Hi Adam I know i'm going off the thread here but have you got rid of your Decals and what size are your wheels. The reason i am asking is your Bongo looks similar to ours (White over Hilight silver.1998 model.)Thinking of getting rid of our Decals and fitting 17 / 18 inch wheels.Thanks. Andy.

The scavenger fan should kick in when the engine compartment needs cooling, so in theory in this weather it should not run. I unplugged the sensor in the summer, due to handbrake lever getting hot

after cleaning contacts the fan kicked in and the handbrake cooled down, worth checking

Tell me if you can hear your scavenger fan and i will tell you about my decals and alloys
There are some decals on but they are hard to see on the picture you can just make them out on the rear of the vehicle by the filler cap. They are purple in colour. It also has montague written below the wing mirrors. I think its best to use a hair dryer if you do want to remove your decals.I have not touched the decals on mine.
The alloys are just 15 inch 5 spokes that were on when i brought it. I like the look of bigger alloys but at over a £100 a corner and £200 for some scond hand alloys off ebay i will wait untill my present tyres are on there way out.
