Getting ready for painting now!

Change my mind on the colour and now going for Rustoleum Silver Grey (same as the golf below), as I did not like the green I ordered.

More details of roller painted golf here - http://www.clubgti.com/showthread.php?2 ... ect!/page2

Rather than this colour

So it will be a similar colour scheme to this golf with black roof, front grill, door handles, etc.

I have unbolted the front end and will paint the parts (roller) inside as it is too cold out side. The doors will follow (unbolt) and in April when it is warmer I will do the door shuts and main body.

I will post some pics of the front end next week :-)

Painted the wings and the panel below the front grill :-)
Below is a pic of one wing.

Lessons learnt
1) don't use a gloss sponge roller, as they create loads of bubbles!
2) do use a gloss roller that has short "hair" (only sold in packs of 2 in B&Q) as they don't produce bubbles, don't shed their "hair" and give a really good finish.
3) I still need to wet flat the parts (may take 2 days to dry inside) and do another 3 coats wet flat between each coat.
4) Preparation is key! the panels need to be super smooth just like any paint job

I also have a HVLP black and decker spray gun which I will also test to see what gives the best finish and might use a combination of the 2 (2xroller and then 2 coats with the gun).

Front end all bolted back together.
Wings and bumper have 2 coats and bonnet just the one (painted with a gloss roller), so they still need to be flatted and more coats of paint (4 in total).

I'm also going to fit this bib spoiler from a T4

I tried the HVLP Black&Decker sprayer on the bumper and it was not good at all, too much paint (lowest setting) and I got loads of runs.
The roller is much better as the finish is better and you use less paint however, I might get my mate to spray the last coat using a proper HVLP gun (via an air compressor).

That's disappointing, I was hoping to find something similar. Looking into carrying out some repairs myself, without going to the extreme of buying an air compressor (as I have to run an extension to garage and drain from compressor would be too much)

Just use a roller, as the finish is good and once you wet flat and polish it will look amazing.
This is the roller I'm using as the foam one create too many bubbles.

Good price for a pukka part, but I have taken the chance and ordered 8 metres (anything would be better than the perished original item on my van)
