Rear fan blower..
Hi guys. I've just noticed my rear heaters are dead. There is no live going to the switch and all the fuses seem fine, the dash button is on too. Somebody mention a switch around the drivers seat? Anyone any ideas? Cheers

Don't know about a switch near the seat, but you must turn on the front blower.

Have you set the fan speed on the rear control panel? Have you got manual or digital controls up front?

All manual. I've activated the fans on both front and back.

Try the fan speed resistor which is under the bonnet behind the big air intake.

I've check the resistors, they look ok. One or two of them are showing a bit of corrosion but I'm still drawing a live from them. Any other ideas? Does the wiring run through the inner side panel (next to the drivers door)? It's had a bit of welding and I'm hoping the wires haven't been torched. Cheers.

The resistor for the REAR fan is not under the bonnet!! Its where you might guess it would be with the rest of the rear unit.

Its a different resistor pack compared to the front if you need to repair or replace, but its not a very common failure unlike the front one where water gets into the motor and corrodes the it.
For the Fuses that control the unit see http://www.g8dhe.net/bwm/ and select the By Fuses Problems tab.

According to the link the fuse for the rear is under the bonnet. That seems fine. Is it a massive job to get the unit out? Basically there is power at the front and nothing at the switch.

Hi
Does the front fan work alright? You seem to say you've covered all that, and everything is alright except the rear.
If so, take the rear trim panel out and start from there. Do the panel removal on a warm day, as the plastic is brittle, and the trim clips can pull off their mountings!
First check to see if you have power to the fan, then put 12 volts to the fan and see if it works! If the fan works with 12 volts, then trace back, It's not a hard job! The likely suspects are:
1/. the switch to the rear (not common, but not unheard of)
2/. the rotary switch on the dash (uncommon, but not unheard of)
I replaced my motor 4- 5 years back...they aren't quite the same as the front one. Not a hard job, but tedious...I seem to remember I had to access the heater bolts under the sill to release the box a wee bit, but it didn't entail removing the box...(that was another episode

I assume you're talking about the 1/4 trim behind the drivers seat? So I can access the motor, wiring from there? There is power from the front rear fan switch, nothing at the switch in the back end trim though

Dependent on your problem, no, it's not the small trim, but the trim PANEL to the right of the bench seat, namely the one with the heater controls attached...The motor is on the heater/ aircon box, and that's where the wiring goes from the rear controls...it's not as hard as it sounds.
