Some do, some don't - my Renault Master needs a service at 18,000 miles or 2 years.

Remember the Bongo service schedule was set in the 1990's and when using ordinary mineral oil. It would not be the same if it was being set now.

Diesel engine oil gets contaminated faster than petrol engines due to various facts mainly higher compression and combustion. They use the same principal and (tolerances)as petrol engine IE compression /oil control and scraper rings as an example.

If you change the oil on both engine at the same time and run each for a few hundred miles then drain the oils it will become apparent .The oil from the petrol engine will be a lot cleaner than the (black contaminated )oil from the diesel engine.

PS forgot to mention that the Diesel oil on these vehicles is also used as a controlled jet Piston oil cooler.

How does "higher compression" contaminate the oil?

Products of combustion in "blow by" can contaminate the oil BUT that is due to combustion pressure and the degree of engine wear, not "higher compression".
They are not the same thing.

I did say "Higher Compression AND Combustion" as in Together.

So where does "Higher Compression" come into it?

to add a new question
any comments on the life of motor lubricating oil (engine oil) versus the use of 50/50% rapeseed/diesel fuel
eg polymerisation, increased viscosity of oil.

another question
effect of low sulphur fuels on the life of engine oil.

You CANT have COMBUSTION on a Diesel engine (an old Bongo one) Without the HIGHER Compression Ratio of that of a Petrol Engine.

I am getting confused with you argument. I thought you were clued up on Oil burners.

Never mind you are never too old to learn.

I thought this thread was about a 'drama free oil change' but it's turning out to be full of action and excitement :).

No that's gone all soggy - just like Somerset, only the rain took longer to get there.

Indeed, but if you're going to do 50+ oil changes as we have, a pump is worth its weight in gold
