Diesel pump O ring sizes?

Post by thatkeith » Sat Jan 31, 2015 11:46 am

My dear old Bongo has a leaky fuel pump. My local garage isn't a Bongo specialist but they are always really helpful, and they've changed the O ring seal at the accessible end of the pump – but it turns out the other end needs replacing as well. In order to save time & money (at their suggestion) I got the first O ring from a different garage that had stacks of the right size, and I'll do the same again...

But could someone tell me, are both the fuel pump O rings the same size?

I have the old one that was taken out at the start (and yes, the rubber is halfway to fossilised!) but it'll be some work getting to the other end. If I can have the right size replacement already there it'll smooth and speed the whole process.

Long question about a small part, sorry!

I got mine from my local Bosch dealer.....then decided to have pump overhauled anyway.

Well worth the money.

Your Local corner shop also stocks these seals.

Thanks all! You guys are brilliant – as helpful as I remembered from years ago when I had a battery question. :)

I see that the Bongo Shop page lists "Diesel Pump Seals (set of 2)", so it's a reasonably logical bet that the second seal is the same as the first. The place where I got the first seal said "we get 'em in packs of 50" and didn't charge me a penny, so I'm going back there for another.
(This time I'll give them a few quid of course, it'd be rude otherwise.)

If you get stuck, I've got two Bosch seals that you can have for £5 (posted) that I got in a box of goodies from a former Bongo owner. It also included two nuts which may or may not be relevant, but I'll chuck those in as well.

You can do the nuts joke as long as you can tell me what those nuts are for :). They were in the same bag as the O-rings so I assume they are injection pump related.
