Rear Indicators Not Working

This has been received by Amy in Hertfordshire. Can anyone help?

My passenger side indicators have stopped working. They started to be intermittent after I changed the brake bulb so I thought there maybe a loose connection in the rear set. I have pulled as much of the wiring out as it will allow but can't find any obvious problems. I checked the hazard and turn signal fuses just in case but these are fine so before I remove my rear conversion to be able to remove my paneling I thought I would check with you for any other ideas.

Hmmm...I suspect that you may just have a bit of corrosion on the bulb or the socket...a bit of emery cloth, and tweak the socket / connectors will get it going...

When you tested the indicator bulb was it very bright or a bit dull.

Original post says indicatorS i.e. both? Would be worth clarifying because if it is both indicators on the passenger side it's less likely to be a fault in just one light fitting such as dirty contacts...

On the wiring diagrams, both bulbs for the passenger side connect to the same flasher contact (as you would expect). If the other side is working then the (single, common) fuse must be OK.

So if both bulbs are not working there are either 2 faults, one in each light fitting, or more likely the flasher unit is faulty.

If it's only one bulb which isn't working then it's most likely dirt or corrosion in the light fitting followed by a loose or damaged wire in the light fitting from where it was removed to fix the brake light. Least likely would be a wiring break elsewhere in the vehicle so I'd think removing the kitchen unit would be a last resort.

It does sound like a dodgy connection or short on or near the light unit. Also worth removing / changing the brake light bulb as it may have a fault (and thus was where the problem started). I woudn't go to the effort of removing the conversion or the rear panel as the wiring is pretty well hidden and goes up into the roof.

Try disconnecting the while unit, checking the condition of the pins on the multiway plug by the rubber grommet and reconnect/disconnect it a few times to clean the contacts.

Does the left turn tell-tale light on the instrument panel work and can the relay be heard clicking?

Simple things first...bulb and connections...Most of mine on one side hadn't had attention when I bought it years ago...the whole lot just needed a good clean...Original Post was for PASSENGER side only!...mine was one side, and it's merely an individual quirk...many don't give trouble. If no luck with cleaning, bend every contact to be a bit tighter, and try again.
Like already said, it's very unlikely a wiring problem inside!

Thanks for all your help. In answer to some of the questions:
Yes I do mean both front and back on the passengers side.
Yes the unit is still making a clicking noise but faster than the norm and no the Indicatior lights on the dash for the left turn are not working. Driver side is all fine.
I have checked the bulb terminals and changed all bulbs in the rear and indicator bulb at the front incase they were falty. I have checked all wiring behind rubber gromet. And nothing has worked.
Any other ideas out there please?

If the unit is clicking but much faster than normal it could be a short to round. Older type flashers (not sure if this applies to Bongo) used a thermal heating effect to trigger the flashing so if there's a short, the current is higher and it heats faster which could explain the faster clicking. Also explains why there's no dash light working - the whole circuit is connected together so a short anywhere would mean all the bulbs are shorted out.

I would unplug the flasher unit and measure the resistance from the relevant pin to ground (use the wiring manuals as a guide to work out which pin) - you could compare the left and right hand measurements. If you find a short to ground I'd start looking around the light unit you were working on when the problem started originally.

Thanks jimmo62 hoping to look over wknd and will try this out, It's a bit of a puzzle as stop and tail light light still working.
