Lying fuel gauge

Post by mp3oplecarrier » Thu Jan 18, 2007 2:49 am

Has anyone else had this problem?

My fuel gauge only goes up to half way, so when I think I'm empty I start to fill her up and after £30's worth the pump cuts out. The fuel tank is actually full because I can see it in the filler neck.. I did a hundred miles or so in it today with what should have been a full tank, but by the time I came home the gauge was about 3mm below empty!

Some kind of electrical problem or the float in the tank is bent, or do I just need to point the needle to the right place?

Same thing happened to me. It was a bad earth on the fuel sender, a good clean and gauge now works perfectly. The sender is under a panel on the floor of the Bongo just behind middle row of seats. A bit of a pain getting the carpet up and back down but I managed whole job in about 30 mins. After cleaning then checking your fuel gauge, remember it takes ages to move the pointer, so bear with it for a minute or two.
:) Best of luck :)
