Smoke and flashing glow plug light
Hi guys
After giving the bongo some TLC this weekend replacing the battery/alt & aircon belts/filters etc I have found that I also have white smoke on cold start up and a bit lumpy and once it warms up a bit the glow plug light starts to flash at me losing some power and contiues even when i just have the ignition on alone until it cools down again ? i can hear the relay cutting in but are the flashing light and lumpy cold start up related ?
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Cheers Dave

Re: Smoke and flashing glow plug light
Just tested again and it runs fine when cold but when warm the glow plug light flashes ( Constant on/off with no long or short ones) and loses power ?

Ok thanks I will give it a search
No idea about the oil as not had the van long so I've not changed it yet, The problem only started after i replaced the battery/fuel and air filter and alt and air con belts ? Maybe i disturbed something ?

Adrian at Japandirect in Bury is who I use always, and he's excellent. Suggest you call him, and good luck.davben23 wrote:Looks similar symptoms tbh but not really a solution![]()

Re: Smoke and flashing glow plug light
Seems suspicious you've been near the alternator and the other thread looked like it was leading to the conclusion the voltage was too low.
Put a meter across your battery and check you're getting 14v.
Have you over/under tightened the belts?
White smoke on start up could suggest you have no glow plugs. Same as if you start a bongo too quickly before they've had time to heat.
My Guess is you may have dislodged a connector.

Re: Smoke and flashing glow plug light
Well Adrian at japan direct sorted it out
The glow plugs were replaced and wiring checked with a burnt out fuse found plus a service and back to smooth running.
Highly rate the garage for service and help (Also price)
Thanks for the help guys
