Front fog lights not working

Post by nth » Thu Dec 18, 2014 5:27 pm

Just noticed the other day in bad weather that my fronf fog lamps were not working. Done a bit of investigation & found the fuse in the under bonnet fusebox is ok & there is power at the fuse. The problem seems to be that there is no live feed from the fuse at the secondary side of the relay. I have ran a temporary fused live feed from the battery at the moment to the relay & that has resolved normal operation. i know it works fine like this but id prefer to find where the actual fault is incase there are more damaged wires, is there any common points for this loom to break/corrode/chafe ? Hopefully can save me some time for when i get a chance to have a proper look at it.

Had the same problem with mine and it turned out to be the switch itself.

Connectors at the fog light are a known weak spot they corrode and fail. Have a look there.
If the relay had failed you'd have lost sidelights and dash lights I think rear lights could be on that relay as well.

tucked up tight on the chassis just under the drivers side headlight (best to take it out to see it right) there is a 2 pin white connector, it comes from the relay then up over the top of the rad under the slam panel to the nearside fog light. its usually badly corroded and green as its right in the rain splash zone.
its not under the bumper where the fog light is its behind the strip trim that goes across the front under the headlights/grill.

Thanks for the replies. the switch is fine, it is sending the signal to the relay coil fine, the problem is there is no permanent live feed to the secondary side of the relay meaning the relay is closing no problem when the switch is pressed but it means there is no live there to send to the fog lights. The fog lights operate normally if I supply a permanant live to the relay. That also means the 2 pin connector mentioed is ruled out too. From what i can see from the wiring diagram the wire leaves the fuse & goes straight to the relay without going through any interconectors ? The wire must be open circuited somewhere ? But where abouts?

dont rule out the connector mentioned, the circuit may work through this connector and supply the needed live. its deffo been the fault on 3 bongo.s ive found not to be working. it worth a 10 min check.
