What does this do?

While checking glow plug voltage I noticed this little pipe was not connected to anything.
Looked like it went onto the little tube in the photo.. so I put it back on there.

Everything was running fine before.. and seems no difference after.
(Only issue I have currently is difficult to start in cold.. and lots of white smoke and coughing immediately on start)

This photo is near the glow plug rail.



It looks like it is attached to the air intake?

Perfect.. thank you.

The fact that it was off could have been me when I changed the glow plugs back in May.. or it could have popped off when checking filters etc.
Checking the little tube again, it seems to be split slightly at the end. I pushed it on fully and put a little cable tie around it to try and keep it there..
I'll add it to my check list of things...
