Headlamp bulb glued in!

Post by Douglas » Tue Nov 25, 2014 8:04 pm

Decided I needed decent lights on my 99 Diesel. Bought super brilliant (legal) H4s from Halfords. Not only did the bulbs (as imported) not match, the nearside was glued in (the retaining clip has gone), so now I have a nice bright offside and a candle on the nearside. Having removed the leisure battery and tray I still can't get proper access to the headlamp unit to free the glued in bulb. Looks like I have to take the unit out so I can work on it off the vehicle. Any tips as to the process for removing the unit? And for securing the new bulb when I take out the old - other than gluing it in!

1999 would be an early facelift. This is from a later facelift but shows the general idea. Remove grille, undo few bolts and remove the headlight. With practice it's a 5 minute job. You may be able to find/fashion a replacement spring clip but it will be much clearer when the headlamp is out the vehicle.

Thanks. I had a feeble attempt today but gave up due to rain. Looks like the grille is secured with some clips and maybe bolts so I will have another go.
