Yes they only fly in decent weather. Sutton Bank is lovely for a stroll and the footpath runs right next to the grass airfield.

.As a matter of interest did Andy explain why the vehicle had these symptoms.

"Big juddering noises on start up, then loads of white smoke from rear lasting a 2/3 minutes; losing all water in water bottle."

Again well done.

I agree.

Pam - Andy sounds excellent, but there's still a possibility something is lurking and only time will really tell. If it does happen, I'd still stick with Andy because my hunch is they're as good as anyone can reasonably expect. But a lot of mechanics like to show that they are better than other mechanics and it can be hard to tell truth from porkies at times especially when you are not a mechanic yourself. But to re-emphasise, whatever happens I'd stick with Andy. Meanwhile, check your coolant level daily until an LCA has been fitted. Which is what I think Rita was trying to say in her usual cryptic way

Just quickly, as I'm going out....yes , Andy said the fuel (?) filter was fitted incorrectly, plus system not bled properly etc. will get an alarm this week so I feel more in control here. Thanks

An update for all you guys who have tried to help me re this.....the local garage will not accept any responsibility at all, so spoke to RAC legal helpline(suggested by Andy). They agreed with my findings that the garage has no obligation to be a member of an association/governing body, so are answerable to no one . Advised I take this through the small claims dept of the County Court. Andy ....Bless him, is to write a report to accompany my claim in court. The process is a simple one and I did resort to this many years ago over a very different matter... so am aware etc. hopefully, the local garage will pay up within the 14 days allowed and that will be the end of it. If not, we will both attend court for the judge to listen to both sides,,and deliver his verdict.

Just thought you may be interested , will update you when I have further news.....hopefully ...Good !??

I used Simon Robottom of Contract Mechanics, as recommended elsewhere on this site, and he was brilliant. Our head gasket went a few weeks ago and he came from Warwickshire to Durham and fixed ours in one day. It's like a new engine all the symptoms you've identified will go away, it now runs smoothly and quietly. It isn't cheap but we saw it as sound investment in our vehicle. For a nominal extra fee I asked him to fit a water level sensor to the water tank, re-position the rear fog lamp from dangling off the bottom of the bumper to the light stack and mend a loose tailgate so it's also a useful opportunity to get those niggling, put off till later jobs done as well. It was not the head gasket...the local garage got this wrong ! Ian from this site suggested the contract mechanic, but he was on his hols when I tried, but am very happy with VISAR GARAGE THIRSK. WHO ARE ALSO RAC APPROVED AND CHECKED BY THEM EVERY YEAR .
