Windscreen won't clear

Post by Douglas » Mon Nov 10, 2014 7:06 pm

Although the aircon on my 99 diesel have been recharged and the cab heat works more or less OK the windscreen refuses to clear. Just a whisper of air from the vents below the screen. Any ideas that I could use to fix it please? Otherwise I am furiously wiping the screen with a chamois block.

Check the metal links / rods on the heater box have not become disconnected
Down by drivers or front passengers feet
Might not be directing the air up that way
Gas safe heating engineer / plumber if you need any advice just shout.

Like Gasy says .. check the linkage on the bottom of the heater as the plastic clips can break ..

A missing plastic linkage caused the same issues with my window misting up - the linkage wasn't driven when the window air blower direction setting was selected. Mine linkage component had fallen off and I found it between the carpet and bulkhead. Easy fix!

Just a note - most will know anyway - if you mist up when running and air is coming from the demist vents move the recirculate leaver to take in air -- twas the cause of many a phone call when I was working in technical support for a well known respected manufacturer.

It always bemuses me why people seem to associate Air Conditioning (A/C) with only blowing out icy cold air in the summer ..

A/C as nothing to do with summer or winter .. it conditions / removed moister from the air .. in fact mine is on all year round ..

On the digital type Bongo there is a dedicated button to quickly dry off the moister and demist the front screen ..

To me .. and contra to some posts .. I find that in winter it's initially more efficient to 'recirculate the interior air' as that uses just the interiors air .. it does not bring more cold / damp air external into the bus ..

2nd that, though it is also useful for cooling the recirculated air.

With the A/C on .. the heater set to hot .. you get hot / dry conditioned air ..

My daughter does not often have the A/C switched on in her Suzuki .. she says it drys here eyes / contact lens out and gives her sore eyes ..

If it works for you in the freezing cold don't knock it - I prefer warm air from external source so the heater vents are in use as soon as - the weird thing is even when its raining I never get misted up - I suppose each to their own as they say digital or not.

I leave my two staffies in the Bongo when I go shopping ..

Before the heater as warmed up .. when it's raining with the A/C on .. all the glass clears very quickly ..

Our Mazda 323 has similar vent controls (although not identical) to the Bongo and, when we first got it, it misted up badly.
It turned out that when you pressed the recirculate / external air button, the servo that powered this flap would go round and round before finally settling in the recirculate position. Thus the car never got any fresh air through the vents.
Once fixed, the misting was not so much of a problem.
I guess another possible cause for the O.P to consider.
