TV fitting

Post by Spencer54 » Sun Oct 12, 2014 8:25 pm

Anyone have TV in their Bongo?

Just wondering how you did it and what set up did you use.
Ideally I want something the kids can watch as we go along.

I have an old tv that has a 240-12v powerpack, just wondering if i can just rig up a cable for the TV and away I go?

Hi

I have a 12v Meos tv with dv player and usb. I have mine mounted on the ceiling between the drivers and passenger seats on a pull down bracket. It gets pushed up while driving and is held up with a Velcro strap across it. The power is controlled bra switch on the control panel in the rear beside the bed. This comes off the leisure battery and through the fuse box to the switch. The cable is then run up the walls and under the headlining to the tv. I have had it like that for 4 years and it's very easy to use and to stow away when driving. Can easily be views by passengers in the back while driving also

Watching TV in a moving vehicle is always going to be a hit & miss affair. How many times have you tried to get a good picture at home or on site by balancing the aerial at a jaunty angle somewhere high up & then the moment you set away from it, the picture goes :)

If you just want to watch DVD's then any old analogue flat screen TV will be fine.

OK so Old 12v analogue TV gone in and looks the part.

Then I plumped for this - its a 12v dvb-t tuner and I can play video media from the onboard card reader.
I'll get some pics once installed.

I've got the same unit which I plan to fit in my Volvo to replace the built-in analogue tuner that's now useless. You get quite a lot for your money really.

Don't bother...

What a POS, firstly it looked promising - looked nice had loads of features, and tons in the box.
So connect up and test, not one channel found :?

Back in and check the laughable instructions, find nothing...

On the web it says may need better aerial, at £18... OK annoying, but not a disaster - it was cheap right?

So Ok TV isn't happening - lets test the USB video, nope doesn't like FAT format.
Righto lets try a smart card in the reader, quick check online says that it is fussy about codecs to... may need a converter.
Great, so source a card, load the videos of all types and formats and back out.

So the unit (in standby mode) is now hot to the touch and has gone belly up - perfect.

In a nutshell, they would have been better of spending more money on the internals and less on all the cables and gubbins.
Proper waste of time and effort - my advice steer clear, Xtrons FV002 is useless. What a shame

Hi Simon,

Worse news - if its faulty it has to go to there UK repair centre.
Google Xtrons repair, and all sorts of horror stories emerge.

At least its only £40, I feel for those that have laid out £300 on head units that are scrap.

Hopefully yours will be one of the ones that's in and installed and OK - there are some.

So its gone back and I'm awaiting a refund - We'll see how that goes in the meantime I've bought this to give a go.

For £30 its worth a punt, no DVB-t tuner, but its well made has tons of good reviews and will play from any disk, including external hard drives. So I can take a complete film collection everywhere.

Does analogue and HD, via HDMI, Component etc.

I'll get some pics of the set up once done

Ok I can confirm that the Netgear NTV350 is the bargain of the century.

It now has a hard drive with literally hundreds of films and TV shows connected and it worked amazingly.
My entire video collection travels with, and can be watched on the move - without issue, and takes up zero space. No broadcast TV, but for £30 its brilliant.

Picture quality was great, nice little remote with volume and any videos it couldn't work out it tried to connect to the internet and get Codecs! Superb bit of kit.

I'll post up some pics of it in action, just in case anyone has or wants a similar entertainment onboard for next to nothing.

So TV is in and works a treat

The startup screen from the Netgear box - either looking for media on the local drives, a network drive - or a media centre (PC or PS3 etc...) it has ethernet connectivity so it can if wanted drag from anywhere in theory.

This is the Netgear box fitted to the back of the monitor stand

The supplied remote control - works great even with the box semi hidden.
