Hi. My gearbox is cooked
So will a 2wd one fit and just remove the front wheel running gear? All I can find is a 2wd box as the others are over priced and 2wd doesn't bother me if it fits.
any advise?
Damo.

I'm sure it could be made to fit, but you get a 4WD auto box for £355 which can't be much expensive more than a 2WD one:

Is it just the gearbox that's the problem or is it the transfer box? Do you know what caused the problem?

Its just a 2wd box is only £200 don't want to spend big mony on it and 355 pushes it beyond eco repair after paying for it to be fitted.
Problem is slipping clutch and won't go into 3rd. Cooked the oil again. I swapped the oil out during the service when I purchased it in April.
Sods as I've only done 2000 miles in it and got a big prepare bill .

Bear in mind it will count as a modification so you may find your insurance premium may go up and the drop in resale value of a vehicle with the incorrect gearbox may outweigh the extra £155 it will cost to do a proper repair.

some one i know did this a while ago, i think he said the input shaft on the 4 w drive is thicker, or the output shaft to the transfer box is different so wont fit the 2 wheel drive set up.
he had to split both boxes and make 1 out of the old and new.

That does sound like way more than a hundred and fifty quid's worth of hassle.

Why not ask " George at bongospares " he seems to be an expert on second hand bongo spares and would probably have come across this scenario in the past.

Regarding the output shaft. As far as I can see the 4wd BV801 and the 2wd BV811 boxes use the same input/spigot shaft....BV4521678.
The reason that someone had problems may have been age related as the later model are different.
Latest models Input shaft BW 1121678

all good info cheers, as time goes on and spares get a little scarce there may be a little more of this mix and matching needed.
