Leak due to rust on tailgate

Post by PisceanJoy » Wed Sep 17, 2014 11:25 am

I have a leak when I have the roof raised due to rust above the tailgate door
The mechanic says there is a sort of gutter there and he may have to take the door off to create a new guttering but os worried about the electrics to the side of the tailgae
has anyone dealt this with and does anyone have any suggestions?

Where is the rust and where is the water coming in?

When I open the tailgate The rust us on middle bit of metal above it and is coming in over the end of the bed
I have split rear seats and use the drivers side one and middle seat for my bed
so its coming in where my feet are

So the rust is behind the door shut? Does it not leak with the roof door then? Surely it could get to that area when the roof is lowered (but I assume it is worse when the roof channels all the water to the back?)

Without looking at it, it might be difficult to say. I looked at several Bongo's when buying and never spotted any rust there. I'll butt out and let someone who might have seen this before advise!

I've just mended the loom where it goes from body to tailgate due to wiper being intermittent. I don't know if they're all the same but this one was joined with crimp connectors so ought to be possible to disconnect it, and the screenwash pipe, in order to remove the door. One word of warning, there isn't much wire to play with.

Brian.

Duct/Duck* tape should temporarily solve the problem!
