Sticky throttle.

Post by Andy12 » Mon Sep 01, 2014 11:41 pm

Hi everyone, my wife said the dreaded comment of the bongo's running really well at the minute this afternoon and yes you guessed it. I noticed that when coming to a junction i was struggling to brake as the accelerator was sticking on slightly and running at around 1200 rpm, i could put behind the pedal and ease tick over back normal. When we got home i parked up and the revs suddenly shot up to around 2300 at tick over. Any help/advice accepted or do i need to get it booked into a garage to get it sorted. Many thanks Andy.

What engine have you got and what year? Have you got cruise control fitted? Have you checked that the mat or carpet higher up isn't preventing the throttle returning to normal position?

It could also be a problem with the solenoids that control the revs for cold start and A/C. Start by checking the throttle operation with the engine not running. It should be free and smooth, returning to the resting position as soon as you take pressure off the pedal.

Hi and thanks Simon, better weather here today so i will to that this morning and see how it goes. I forgot to put 2.5d on an N plate so 95'ish and a auto. To be honest it's the auto bit that made it a real pain to drive especially at junctions and tight bends. We let you all know how things go later.

As promised feedback time, thanks to Simon for giving me confidence to take a look, first thing i noticed was the kick panel was loose and moving around and a large blue relay (i think) was loose and fell out and yes the carpet had moved. so 30 minutes later with thinks adjusted and fitted back as they should be and off on a test drive. Problem solved so thanks again Simon.
