oil leak

Post by budgiecoote » Thu Aug 28, 2014 1:15 pm

There is a large rubber pipe that connects vertically to the forward end section of the inlet manifold and it has recently become soaked in fresh oil. There is a metal pipe that runs along the length of the inlet manifold and is connected with two bolts to the forward section adjacent to large rubber pipe. As there is oil down the back of the metal pipe connection is its gasket one that can leak oil down onto the large rubber pipe. The gasket I am querying is listed as 20-306A on the inlet manifold section of lushprojects. Excuse my ignorance as to what part of the manifold system may or may not carry oil.
I have lost 1 litre of oil in the last few months and any help would be appreciated!!!

this is the drawing
you may notice that the connection of the egr pipe to the air inlet manifold elbow is drawn wrong. it shows a side entry, when it actually enters from the top. this tin gasket leaks. be very careful when attempting to tighten these bolts up to seal the gasket as the threads usually strip out of the ally elbow, i usually fit coarse thread imperial bolts as these take a larger bite than the finer metric thread.
remove the bolts then apply a suitable sealing compound then refit.

you may want to check the reason its leaking oil, are you using the correct oil ??? the egr valve maybe slow or stuck, you may just do lots of little trips instead of motorway blasts. i would check all the connections on the air inlet pipe all the way forward from the turbo to the intercooler, then to the manifold, if the air isnt being drawn into the inlet manifold quickly (sucking in air from a leak) it may cause the oily vapours to slow down and cool in the pipe rather than being burnt in the engine.
