Advice on ball joint rubbers

Post by loopy_lab08 » Sat Aug 23, 2014 10:50 am

Hi,

I need some advice for the following:

Are the rubber rings for the track rod end and the ball joints separate from the dust covers?

Thank you.

the complete arm with the joint fitted is here, its easier.

the complete trackrod end and rubber joint/covers are so cheap to buy its pretty pointless fitting just new rubbers.

im a little confused when you say rubber rings, but i think you mean the dust covers. hope this helps.

Just FYI I replaced the complete track rod ends recently and it was a completely straightforward job - just measure the lengths before you remove the old ones so you can get it set back up close to where it was, then a quick visit to a tyre shop to get the tracking done.

As above, track rod ends cost pennies. Replace them. Measure, try to replicate, then go to national tyres for a fifteen quid alignment.

Ball joints. Buy new wishbones. Seriously. I've not managed to make replacement rubbers last a year, and I've also had the same experience with replacing the actual ball joints.

I would love to carry out repairs on my camper but I'm not mechanically minded so will leave it to the experts!
