glow plug light

Post by smillingjimmyc » Fri Aug 15, 2014 11:47 am

hi.
Just noticed glow plug light does not illuminate when ignition turned on,I've been looking at the wrong orange light  however there is a "beep" after about 10 seconds if I have not started the engine.Could this be an indication to start or possibly just something to do with car alarm/immobiliser

On my 96 diesel you hear the relay click after the glow plug light has gone out, time interval depends on the engine temp, longer from cold.No beep though.

I'll listen for that! Only had bongo few weeks and had it serviced last week and they had a good look at it,not just oil change etc.Suprised it wasn't mentioned, its going back to garage in two weeks for couple of things so I'll ask then.

The beep could be lots of things really. Most Bongo's have lots of beeps and have also had varying aftermarket items installed that have all sorts of beeps.

Interestingly I'd never heard the relay click until I had my glowplugs replaced and now it seems really loud! That might be a good method until you get it sorted. Bulb could be a relatively easy fix, so fingers crossed!

Could be simple as the bulb, just suprised garage didn't notice they seemed to notice everything else! I'll not start messing about with bulbs etc,I'll mention it when back at garage.

when its cold it stays on for ages, so a while until it clicks, when its hot or warm its not needed much so can turn off quickly.

Well,I've tried 4 times and there is a click(thanks for that)but strangely a beep at the same time! Is it possible the light has been replaced with an audible indication  or has the "beep" always been there and just the bulb gone.Either way I now know when its ready to fire up,thanks for the help.
