Accelerator Pedal has lots of play before engaging

Post by conmai » Mon Aug 04, 2014 11:57 pm

My accelerator pedal seems to have a lot of play when pressing it down before any movement is engaged, is there a way to tighten this up so the acceleration is more instantaneous and less play?

Assuming yours isn't the later style 'drive by wire' electronic throttle pedals then you can just adjust the cable in the engine bay. On the diesel, it's got a threaded adjuster on the outer cable sheath just like you get on a bicycle brake cable.

Similar setup on the V6. You can see the cable and the threaded adjuster (brass-coloured) on the right hand end above the inlet manifold:

Thanks for the replies, it's a 1997 diesel, when I'm back I'll take a look...
