As it's currently with a non bongo garage. I may get the exhaust and take it to a bongo friendly garage in Birmingham (if there is one) and see if they can do that at the same time.

So many differing opinions on exhausts and what way to go. But that place looks good, so I'll probably go with them.

as i recall its just a case of blanking the vacumn hose running to the valve and bunging a normal 3 part exhaust on

I'll probably keep the winter system in. As far as I'm aware it works, so will just leave it in, unless this exhaust place in Walsall can blank it.

I have fitted a 2-part one from MIJ and can also 100% recommend them. Good price, very speedy delivery and a joy to deal with on the phone. (And a nice exhaust too, if you are into that sort of thing!)

Yeah. I've spoken to them this morning £249 for two part and £349 for 3 part. I think my down pipe is ok, but he wasn't too sure what I meant when I mentioned the winter pack. I'm sure they can blank this off if they fit a two part. Others seem to think this is worthwhile.

I would remove it if it was me. The 2-part is very straightforward to fit, all the way from the turbo to the rear bumper. You'll be amazed how much lighter the whole thing is (must be worth a couple of MPG!).

Once you have it fitted and working, if you get grey 'candy floss' coming out of it, don't worry, it's excess wadding burning off and quite normal apparently (so they told me!)

It looks like I'll go down this route. They seem to know what they are doing and the blanking off of the winter pack valve I'm sure is within their capabilities. It's about £100 more than going the eBay route (full 4 part system) and getting that fitted by my local garage.

SS tends to be noisier than standard so keep that in mind. I've fitted middle and back boxes myself and its a doddle provided bolts cooperate (new bolts probably best - you can get those and the gaskets you'll need on eBay). My front section doesn't look corroded after 8 years of my ownership (and probably many more) so yours may not be either. So you might fix things quite cheaply using eBay 'standard' items.

Many of the exhausts are original or at least were fitted in Japan which would suggest a good bog standard exhaust should be good for 10+ years. I fitted SS on my last van and it was slightly louder and then a crack developed as they don't flex as well as mild steel. It was repaired under lifetime warranty so I can't complain but I think they are a little over-rated.

Thanks Simon, another valid point. I guess mines been in the uk about 7 years so maybe the uk climate has taken it's toll.

I'll have another think this week about what I need to do. I need the back/tail section right up to and including the winter pack section at the very least. So either a fully fitted SS systems for £290 or get the £125 full exhaust off eBay, buy whatever gaskets, bolts, hangers etc I need and then get a garage local to fit it. That'll probably come in total around £200-£240 I reckon, so not much difference I guess.

yer pays yer money on this subject..... prices comparing standard and SS are close enough to make you consider an SS zorst...
MIJ did my exhaust 4 years ago....it's a fit and forget item and my MOT man..... takes a quick glance and always says.... ah Stainless....no worries there then
As for extra noise.... it depends on the sound you want...I have a standard and not a loud back box, the only caveat with the sound is that stainless has a "tinny" sound when running from cold until the engine gets to normal temperature....other than that...no difference... to be honest...anyone needing a new full exhaust...I always say..."what are you dithering about for"
