Hi guys new to the bongo world having just got one this week to travel around NZ. Its a 1995 Bongo Brawny, 2l Auto.
Having a few issues with the auto transmission and it cutting out... It has a manual choke which is all good and works, however, no matter what the engine temp, choke amount etc, when in drive and stood still, even for a split second it cuts out, this makes it near impossible to park or move around at slow speeds, it idles when all warm at 1000-1200rpm so can rule that out. Also it only appears to have 3 gears, making driving and fuel efficiency pretty noisy and expensive. Any light shed on these areas would be ace.
Thanks
Matt

Re: 2litre Auto 1995 Bongo problems
Hi
We don't deal with that Bongo on here...it's the Bongo Friendee and Ford Freda versions we know. Have you any more details on the engine / transmission, as it could be a number of faults?
Cheers

Sound like the engine is running a wee bit rich (needs a good tune up) Re the box you best bet is to contact an Auto transmission Specialist, it could be the box and or the control system that is faulty. It is often better to do this than flinging unnecessary parts at it.
PS always worthwhile making sure the Fluid is at the correct level.
Just read your post again......Does it only cut out when in drive...is it ok in neutral, if so it could be the box is causing that particular fault
PS always worthwhile making sure the Fluid is at the correct level first.
Good Luck.

Hi, thanks, yeah only when in drive or reverse, when in neutral it idles nicely or if anything slightly high at 1000-1200, which makes me wonder even more why it struggles and cuts out when in a gear.

Hi
Have you any photos of the engine which you can upload, so we can get a better idea of the engine systems?...otherwise we're stabbing in the dark
Cheers

Re: 2litre Auto 1995 Bongo problems
Owing to the fact that it is not engaging top gear and the vehicle is stalling when idling in gear would suggest a box problem. AS said I think you are looking for a Auto box Specialist.
