Noise from engine
Hi all.
Billy has developed a strange noise. (2.5 diesel 95 model)
Normally this noise is heard when the engine is running, but very occasionally it happens when the key is put to ACC position.
Managed to video it this weekend. It only made the noise for about 20 seconds and then stopped.
Video is taken from under the passenger side. I was wondering if it was the alternator, but the noise happening without engine running makes me think it can't be.

Video is only a few seconds long.
Anyone have any ideas?
Many thanks.

When does that kick in? I have never seen it moving.wonkanoby wrote:sounds more like a fan than engine to me

I tried to rotate it and at first it wouldn't move, but then it finally did.. but never seen it move.
Re: Noise from engine
key put to a/c means it could be one of fans on radiator
they come on wirth a/c
scavenger should only come on with extreme heat

Thanks for the pointer. It is the scavenger fan.wonkanoby wrote:key put to a/c means it could be one of fans on radiator

Found the sensor by the handbrake and by passed it, fan comes on and is noisy.
Tried to add oil, and it seems to make it worse.
Looks like it is slipping. Looks loose around the center.
Any idea how to take the blade out? The nut in the center just turns with the motor.

Re: Noise from engine
looks buggered to me
im guessing some thing got in and locked fan,but motor carried on spinning

Re: Noise from engine
Don't suppose a liberal application of araldite would effect a temporary repair?

I found some bits of plastic hanging off. Looks like the fan has stripped.Steptoe wrote:Don't suppose a liberal application of araldite would effect a temporary repair?
bongospares had one for £35. Ordered and waiting delivery. Hopefully it will be easy to fit

Re: Noise from engine
sounds like someone may have wired it direct in the past, so it is on permanently, its not designed for prolonged/constant use so may have eaten itself.
ive had bongo,s for years and have never seen one switch on/off yet.
