First camping trip

Post by johnlewis » Mon Jun 09, 2014 12:04 pm

Took the Freda out for the first camping trip ever this weekend - it was ace! I got an awning for £45 too, pretty much new! OK it's a caravan one so a little high, but it suits the van and done us proud. We went to Maker Heights in Cornwall, about 7 miles away from our house, but was a brill time and only cost us 14 quid. Camp fire the lot. Check out the pics!

The awning is a caravan one so I clamped it on with some clamps (like a G clamp vs a carabiner with a thread). It done ok for the most part but a little shower and some overnight high wind (which it survived albeit noisily) showed me I need the fig 8 strip really - and something to SEAL it to the rail with to make watertight. Any suggestions?

PS would highly recommend Maker. So long as you're not expecting foie gras and quilted toilet paper of course!

Hi,

What a lovely looking site - never heard of it before - might have to persuade my other half that we need to do some investigative research :D Love the Rame though.

We have a set of fig of 8s that we don't use if you're interested.

Yeah it's really cool. We were 1 of only 2 vans (other was a VW T3) on the site I think on that night. I guess the weathermen not knowing their a**e from their elbow scared everyone off, yay :) It is pretty high up - so can be windy - but when it is nice it is REALLY nice. It is our favourite place. We took a kite too, was epic on Sunday (not too fierce either that was whilst we slept)!

They have old corrugated arch buildings there from wartime, and plenty of urban decay as it is an old evacuation site for Plymouth (it got heavily bombed in WWII) - but that just adds to the beauty for me!

Brekky on site is ace too - and the residents are really friendly (it is a bit of a hippy commune for want of a more PC phrase!).

Yeah I shall PM you - have you got some photos?

Ta

No photos I'm afraid - I only used it once for one night and then decided on a different attachment that worked better for us. There are 3 sections of normal fig of 8 strip, bought from the club shop. We live in Fowey so could probably meet up for a handover too if you like.
