Gearbox woes!!!!

Post by Gixermark » Wed May 28, 2014 2:03 pm

Well, finally had to admit defeat and sort our gearbox out!

Symptoms ( for those who want to know! ) we're going up the box, 1st 2nd ok then slight slip going into 3rd, then change into 4th. Gradually, over several drives the slip got worse until we were returning this morning from the Forest of Dean and lost all power from 2nd upwards. Would pull ok in 1st, change to 2nd and pull but when it changed to 3rd would just slip ....revs going up and above 4000. Managed to back road it back Hereford where a quick call to George at Bongobits re a bit of advice confirmed the box is dead! I did phone a specialist who diagnosed the same but said a repair will be upwards of £1000 excluding removing / refitting.....just can't warrant that amount of money. George has found, in his words, a decent second hand one (BM711) and it's currently finding its way to a mates garage ready for hopefully fitting late next week!

Will keep this thread updated to let you know the outcome .....one way or another we is comin T the bongo bash!!!

By the way, I had done a complete fluid change ( cleaned filter out, checked magnet etc ) and all seemed ok, believe the oil is now brown showing Deffo issues!

All done! £550 lighter but she's back on the road n better than ever .....believe the g/box was on its way out from day 1 of our ownership. Apart from a cock up on delivery, hats off to George for sending a decent, low milage box.
Now the next problem .....went to 'beep' the horn on the way back from the garage and nowt happening! Brand new horns Christmas ( they work when a lives added direct ) fuse ok, fiddled with the relays ( in front of starting battery ) and still nowt .....looks like a direct feed to a new horn switch me thinks ......
