Low coolant alarm wiring

Hi all,

Perry, our Bongo, came fitted with Haydn low coolant alarm, not convinced that it was working I did some searching on the old tinterwobble and found that when the bullet connector with the red and white wire was unplugged as the test function sure enough, nothing happened. Nothing happens when ignition turned on either.

I have found the tech sheet on this site that shows how to wire it up, all wired correctly and lives and earths present and correct.

The only part on that sheet that differs from mine is mine looks to have the two sensors in the header tank but only the top sensor is connected to the red/white wire, also connected to this top sensor is another red/white wire that goes to earth. I have disconnected this red/white wire from earth and the alarm now works. So my question is, where should this second red/white wire go, shoul it go on the lower screw sensor in the header tank and then to earth?

Are you sure it's a Haydn alarm? We do not supply alarms with red/white wires......?You did the right thing to disconnect the 2nd wire.......you can now remove it altogether or connect it to the lower screw and earth....it's not really required.
As it was the system was useless.

You should now get a test beep when you switch on. And if you unplug the bullet at the alarm unit it should go off.

Thanks Haydn, it does say Haydn on it, black sticker white writing, car imported in 2009 so I presume fitted then by wheelquick, the importer.

Anyway, thanks for that I'll put the lower screw to earth.

Ah!! They had a fitter(Karl ) who provided his own wire.....he wouldn't have made that wiring mistake....someone has been messing around.

I still have my mk3 Haydn alarm and it is still going strong, one of the best you did I think Haydn, so easy to fit and so reliable as well, cheers mate.
