V6 air-con pump/hoses. More than one generation?

Post by fivepints » Wed May 14, 2014 7:30 pm

Howdy all, a word of caution to fellow V6 owners, or perhaps just a public admission of my incompetence!

Our air-con pump seized up last year and we've just got round to getting a replacement fitted. Sourced the item and hoses from eBay and took them to our Bongo people for fitting. Lo and behold, having bolted the pump in place the hoses from the replacement pump, although visibly very similar at both ends, were not compatible, at either end. There are two hoses so Mazda seem to have made a small but significant change to the 4 connectors at some point. Why would they do that!?

Our van is from 2000 (X), new shape, so I'm going to investigate what age the "donor" Bongo was, then I'll post part numbers and pictures for reference. (Unless this has already come up and been documented).

Will probably get the connectors swapped over at a hose place but, until then, it's windows open and wind in what's left of my hair!

The aluminium pipes to the rear A/C unit also have different fittings post-facelift.

Thanks Simon. Is this change of fittings common to all engines or just the v6?

Not 100% sure, I think it's more to do with age than engine type although yours, mine and the other chaps I've heard of do happen to be V6's.

Ok, ta, will pore through the schematics to see if I can understand the difference...
...hmm, having pored I can't see any difference, all 4 generations seem to have the same part number for the hoses 61-461 & 61-462 together forming 61-462A.

Is the difference you refer to with the rear a/c shown on the lushprojects schematics?

Hi. I've had exactly the same problem with V6 Aircon, bought a replacement pump for my 1999 V6 and that too had the wrong connectors. I have found it very difficult to source a matching pump. If you have any joy on some sort of hose adaptor let me know. Cheers

How do - I worked it out now - the two pumps are actually different flavours, apparently there is a 61-450, 450A, 450B, 450C and 450D. I had a 450 originally and was sent a 450D. The only difference appears to be the connectors. rjduncanuk, if you're still after one my replacement has the full serial number S09C 61 450D, PM me if you want it!
