Window wipers

Post by Dave46 » Fri May 09, 2014 5:28 pm

Can anybody tell me how I can adjust my window wipers. When I switch them on the passenger side wiper does not move up, and it just drops off the windscreen and sticks there.

I'm hoping there is a way to adjust or tighten the arm, but I can't seem to find anything. Can anyone give some advise please?

Thanks

1) Lift up the plastic cover over the nut
2) Remove the nut
3) Lever the arm off. If it's already loose, it should ping off, but it doesn't budge, its worth getting a dedicated wiper arm/battery terminal puller
4) Switch the wipers on/off so the mechanism parks in the correct place
5) Refit wiper arm so its about parallel with the plastic scuttle panel at the base of the windscreen, tighten nut & test it

If the wiper spindle has been rotating & the arm is jammed, then it is possible the splines on the spindle or arm will be worn so it may not grip when tightened back up. You would need to find some second hand replacements in that case.

If that fails then it may be worth checking the linkages under the bonnet haven't come disconnected.
