Oil leak
I'm losing oil from my Bongo. Not much, but the garage I took it too said they thought it may be coming from the head gasket and hence big bucks. BIG SHOCK! They said they need to get half the engine out to check if this is the case and if it is I might as well get them to replace the gasket.
Can anyone shed light on this and a a sensible course of action. If the gasket has gone does anyone know (a) the replacement cost (b) can it be replaced by any decent mechanic even with no prior experience of bongos.
Any assistance appreciated.

Oil leak
Clean all around the head and upper crankcase, run the engine for a while and see if you can spot where the oil in escaping from.
Is it a large amount, is it dripping from the bottom of the oil sump after running down the side of the engine?

I've got oil marks around my rocker gasket - knew that when I bought it. Doesnt seem to be active but I wonder how it came to be. Dont know if that is the cause in your case, but if so I would imagine quite simple to fix (anyone know how simple it is to remove and replace a Bongo rocker cover gasket (where do you buy them from?)

Hi, i have an oil leak that i thought was comming from the head gasket,
after closer inspection found it was comming from the inlet manifold at the first stud just above the head . It seems to be exess oil being blown through the turbo. It looks worse than it is, not sure if your leak is in the same area. roger

Glad this thread started, as I have the oil weep on the top of my Bongo engine too, was a little worried as I noticed it just as I set out for Leiden last week!!
Is it a case of wade in with spanner and tigten till the nuts "feel right" or is there a torque setting to tighten them up to ?
