Hi, well she's failed the mot on emissions and the back box. The cat converter needs replacing, and having searched the forum I still can't tell which converter fits.
I've found the centre sections and back boxes listed on the shop, but no mention of catalytic converters. I've found one listed here but it's for the 2.5 V6, so I'm guessing this won't be suitable for me?

Actually scrap that second link - spoke to the guy there and he said that won't fit without some adjustment, as the angles on the ends are different to the 2.0 version. He said if he ordered in a cat converter from Japan it'd be in the region of £700, but has heard of some people ordering the 2.5 V6 one and having the ends cut off and replaced with the ends from the existing one.
Has anyone here tried that? Or can you source a catalytic converter for a 2.0 petrol for a more economical price?

We obtained one from Japan for a club member in September 2012 and the total cost including international airfreight and VAT was £645. So the quote of £700 sounds about right.
The catalytic converter for the V6 is no longer available from Mazda.

Having looked into this previously , my small local garage said it would be no trouble for them to alter the flanges to fit my 2.0 for about another £20-£30, with a replacement 2.5 cat at only £179 it seems no contest.
Here's a link to the one I found.

Yes, I spotted that one too. I'll have a chat with my mechanic and see what the verdict is. Thanks for all the pointers!rockerbox wrote:Having looked into this previously , my small local garage said it would be no trouble for them to alter the flanges to fit my 2.0 for about another £20-£30, with a replacement 2.5 cat at only £179 it seems no contest.

Perhaps a silly question, but how do you know existing cat is faulty? There are plenty of other (cheaper) causes of high emissions such a restricted air filter, spark plugs, ignition timing, faulty lambda sensor, poor quality fuel etc. What particular reading did if fail on? Are you running on LPG?
If you do need a cat, any decent exhaust fabricator should be able to supply and modify a universal one for a reasonable cost.
