Changing the Thermostat
Is there a fact sheet on this, I have looked but cannot find one, ta folks.
Re: Changing the Thermostat
My top tip - Admit defeat early, and get underneath and remove the undertray to get to the bolts holding the stat housing on.
One bolt can be undone from above. The other wants you to think it can, in fact it may even want to be undone from above itself, but in the end, you have to get 'down & dirty' under the van to get the damn thing undone.
Edit - In fact, there is a fact sheet on the Wiki (I even contributed to it, and forgot it was there!)
Here
Feel free to add your experiences to it, and edit it if required.

In the beginning there was nothing , then God said "Let there be Light".....There was still nothing , but ,by crikey, you could see it better.
Re: Changing the Thermostat
Right then - you're doing my next thermostat.
I'll do your waterpump. Last one took me 20 mins (not counting the bleeding time!)

Re: Changing the Thermostat
2wd is a lot easier than 4wd as no driveshaft in the way

Re: Changing the Thermostat
Two options to make getting the last bolt out a bit easier: use a universal joint before the socket or slacken the dipstick tube and move it out the way.

I also did it from above using a wobble bar, as Simon says, move the dipstick tube. A blob of plasticine in the socket stops the bolt dissapearing.

To infinity and beyond
Re: Changing the Thermostat
Very good Wiki thingy
Is the V6 the same as the diesel?
I ask because after a recent gas conversion and a1000 mile final set up, it seems that when it goes over to gas it pinks and stalls because the temp is not hot enough although the lpg set up is spot on. So after reding this I started thinking that the changing the stat could only improve things surely?

Re: Changing the Thermostat
The V6 thermostat is shown below. Pretty certain your thermostat is nothing to do with your problem though. On the BRC system, it monitors the temperature of the coolant in the vapouriser and will switch over at the configured temperature. The only affect of the thermostat has is how long it takes to get to that temperature rather than the actual temperature.
It sounds like you need to get the switch over temperature increased. Based on the digital gauge I have fitted to one of the coolant pipes, mine is set around 35 degrees.

Simon
Mine was set at 35 deg but had to have it increased lately. Still no real difference except I am running on petrol a bit longer

Thanks for the tip on the stat tho' rules that out then?
