Puff of exhaust smoke under bonnet

Post by johnlewis » Sat Apr 12, 2014 8:27 pm

Hi guys

I just popped the bonnet [seat] of my new Freda to get a look at the whistle I can hear under load, hoping it could be the fan belt squealing. I see a new alternator, a new fan belt, and when I rev a little puff of exhaust gas. Am I to assume this is the #1 bolt problem? Would this also cause it to be sluggish off the mark, or could this be throttle cable (it was on my T4). If it is the bolt, where in Plymouth/Saltash area should I go to get it fixed?

Cheers in advance!

If you've got a squeaky fan belt noise, smoke and blackening around the front of the manifold then it is likely to be no.1 manifold stud. Best place to take it is Allan's in Plymouth: http://www.allansvehicleservices.co.uk/

That is just not like Allans, they really do provide an excellent service and you will find many members have thanked them on this forum :? - maybe they are away at the moment.
This is their website http://www.allansvehicleservices.co.uk/

I did 300+ mile round trip so he could do the cambelt and oil seals on my V6. He's one of only a few garages I would trust to do that sort of job. He is either away or run off his feet at the moment so try giving him a call on the mobile number on Monday.

Sweet, I will reserve judgement then - I guess they're away. Weird, as they were tweeting as well - but I will give em another try when I've sold my car and have some money haha!

Cheers people :)

My first dealing with Allan last week when he serviced my bongo and he really is a brilliant chap =D>
Great service and I am extremely pleased with the results!

Just pop down I'm sure he will be more than happy to help. He's just off haye road (down the lane that's opposite drake memorial park)
