Sadly we have had to cancel our trip here due to a 'Family Ocassion'. :(

Have a great time, Guys, and hope to see many of you at the 'National'. :D

Phoned Lauder, but as it is a Camping and Caravanning site there is the usual message saying to contact headquarters for booking extra nights. C & C don't like members phoning sites direct unless you have a large or problem rig. I am not going to phone HQ even though I am a member,I will keep trying site.

You phoned the wrong site. The camping and Caravanning Club site is at Carfraemill which is about 5 miles north of Lauder, the Bongo bash is being held on an independent site a few hundred yards south of Lauder. In any case you should be phoning Ian the Bongomeister to make a booking.

PS: Almost all Camping & Caravanning Club bookings are done one line these days. I am a member myself and have just booked two campsites with them for my holidays with no problems at all.

So what do you get up to at these bashes? Is there much to do for kids?

It varies depending on the area and the campsite and how many kids turn up. Unfortunately the Thirlestane Castle campsite website does not tell you very much. Lauder is a small village so I guess that it is going to be mostly down to walking around the castle grounds or up the Eildon hills which although not being very high are isolated and provide the best viewpoint in the Scottish Borders. Further afield there is Abbotsford House where Sir Walter Scott lived and Traquair house which is associated with Bonny Prince Charlie and has a maze in its grounds, it also has a very old micro brewery. If the kids are old enough some of the best mountain biking in Scotland is not very far away.

We can still accept late bookings up to 4pm this Thursday. After that time our unused pitches will be returned to the campsite.

Post your location, there are quite a few unofficial meets throughout the coming months, if you are based in Scotland, keep an eye on the Scotland section, as there are always posts appearing, regarding the odd meet during the year.

For those attending the Scottish Bash tomorrow. Welcome to the beautiful but wet Scottish Borders. Heavy showers expected all weekend with a thunder storm at 3pm tomorrow. At least there are two camera recommended pubs in Lauder. :D
