Light Pimp

Post by stuc » Mon Apr 07, 2014 9:53 pm

Eventually got around to doing my front lights, I wanted to paint the chrome section black and remove the orange surround from the indicator bulb and replace them with orange bulbs. Mission accomplished I think. I'm really pleased with the way they turned out. For reference(BDC) the orange surround is held in with a small screw once you get the lens off and the chrome surround out.

Thank you. I would now like to fit some LED's inside the headlamps now I know how they come apart.

Me and BDC did something similar to our lights, but we cut a hole in the back to get to the orange section.

Nice one Stuc. I recently " de-egged" my Paseo, but all I did was remove the indicator unit and chipped/smashed away with long nose pliers through the bulb holder hole, (the bit under the screw head was a pain though :) ) and used a chrome indicator bulb to remove any orange showing

The later HID lamps came with clear indicator covers:

I like those lights, that's why I wanted the inside of mine black, it makes the front look a bit more modern.

Hi stuc. Are the lenses stuck to the chrome reflectors with anything? I had a headlamp unit off yesterday to change some bulbs and noticed all the tabs holding them together but wondered if there's any adhesive there as well. TIA.

Chrome bits are just sat in place with no adhesive, should just pull off.

How did you separate the lens from the headlight without damaging it, and what did you use to reseal it.
I have a want to put DRL inside and was contemplating this myself - it looked like it was glued together with grey mastic?

I put it in our spraybooth and got them nice and warm and just eased the lens off. It is just sealer of some sort. When I put them back together I just warmed them up again and stuck them back together. You could probably use a heat gun on low if you are careful.

Does anyone sell new lights for the bongo that don't cost a small fortune?
Quite like the newer units that incorporate the indicator.
