I've emailed them for a delivery quote for just the tailgate awning so I'll pass that information on too.

Don't buy it. One wind gust and it's gone. Q. Why are (old style) parachutes domed?
Campsites won't like it and rightly so.

Re: Bus Depot Ezy-Awning
Mike, for when windy you can use provided guy ropes plus the wheel mount kit. I don't see how it can move with the weight of the Bongo holding it down? Photo here: http://cdn.busdepot.com/media/catalog/p ... WM7905.jpg Manufacturer's blurb:
" As shipped, the Ezy-Awning can be held down by as little as two stakes – one through each leg – and no guy ropes (although guy ropes and additional stakes are provided for use in windier conditions). But add our inexpensive Wheel Mount Kit, and the awning is fully self-supporting, without the need for any stakes or ropes at all. This makes it perfect for tailgating, concerts, swap meets, flea markets, or other locations where you can’t stake into the ground. The design is very simple – the awning legs angle back to the vehicle and attach to mounts that go under your tires. Therefore your vehicle’s own weigh holds the awning down. "
Maybe I'm being stubborn here. I get the point about parachutes
With the side walls in place then perhaps less 'wind' to lift the dome roof?
Don't suppose anyone knows the owner of this vehicle?! http://images.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/585469.jpg , http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=341666 If they are on here then I can ask how they've got on at campsites.

Re: Bus Depot Ezy-Awning
Ok I got a shipping quote from the company. If you just order the awning then shipping will be $82.14. My shipping quote for the following items is $126.00:
- 1 x Ezy-Awning Beige (standard size)
- 1 x Ezy-Awning Wheel Mount Kit
- 1 x Front Wall
- 2 x Side Wall
So for just the awning, I think you are looking at £147.12. That includes shipping, UK VAT and the admin charge that Scanner mentioned previously.
I'll probably bite the bullet and order soon.

Re: Bus Depot Ezy-Awning
didn't mean to sound too negative digitalgypsy but i'd be tempted to look at caravanstore awnings on ebay and bid on one of those then make some storm straps. But it looks a nice item and could work out fine. Keep us posted

Re: Bus Depot Ezy-Awning
Not at all Mike, I'm definitely one for research/opinions
After more thought I doubt I can justify the shipping cost and VAT, for it to then work out a boo boo! Not as if I can return. So now thinking about a Khyam Sun Canopy
http://www.khyam.co.uk/detail.asp?p=203 ... n%20Canopy Please tell me you think campsite owners might look more favourably on that (no dome to concern them)?? I particularly like that you can get side and front panels.
Only issue is the Khyam is 275cm in length and sure the Bongo gutter isn't that long. Perhaps questions for another topic...

Their shipping quotes are a rip off. They quoted me $74 shipping for the tailgate awning (the awning itself is $70). I can get a pallet weighing 300kg from USA-UK by UPS for less.

Re: Bus Depot Ezy-Awning
I've noticed a lot of eBay traders (US, Chinese) seem to use ridiculous p&p charges (to make their profit?). I thought eBay were supposed to be policing things, and then I woke up and realised.....yes, I was only dreamingPoohbear wrote:Their shipping quotes are a rip off. Hi
Poohbear...
Do you have any details on that shipping???...I buy from all over, and a cheap pallet service sounds good to me....Most bits for sale in this country are WAAAAAY over-priced, and often Knock-offs, so I ship from anywhere!...US, Japan, UK, EU....Just had a packet from the US...that was fairly dear!...but a good cheap service would be very handy!
Cheers

Hi
Poohbear...
O.K. ...I'll look further at that...I use UPS and TNT a lot...and Interparcel....sometimes I wonder how they do it at the price....I do find USPS a bit pricey, but they REALLY track well, as do Japanese post
Cheers

Re: Bus Depot Ezy-Awning
Just been quoted $116 shipping for the standard awning and wheel fixing kit. Have queried the cost and asked for the weight..

I'm guessing that they have a big enough customer base already and can't be bothered to ship stuff abroad so they price it high to put us off. It worked with me.
