Passenger side mirror won't adjust horizontally

Post by Poohbear » Thu Mar 13, 2014 11:23 am

I hope someone can point me in the right direction here. The mirror will move up/down but not left/right. Is there an easy fix or is it a mirror off and strip down job. I had a look at the wiring between the door and the frame and it looks OK although I didn't think it could be that as everyhting else on the door still works and the mirror moves up/down and still folds correctly. Has something come adrift? Does anyone know what the mechanism looks like inside the mirror?

Might be worthwhile having a look at the switch for dirty/faulty contacts its probably a 6 pole .

I discounted the switch because the drivers side mirror moves left right using the same switch

There are two motors: up/down & left/right so it's quite possible you have a broken connection in the wiring loom, or faulty motor. If you pop the mirror glass out you may be able to get a multimeter on the contacts on the motor.

Thanks, how does the glass pop out?

Just had the same problem with my driver side mirror when Jaws came home from the garage. Turned out the unit had been knocked by somebody and when I folded the mirrors in and then out again (using the switch on the dash) the mechanism re-engaged and horizontal adjustment was restored. Worth a try.
Live Bongo and prosper.

I've just checked a spare mirror I have and it looks like the motors are quite well sealed in an enclosure so checking the voltage at the motor contacts will be a bit tricky.
