clunking and wallowy steering?
i've had a clunking from the back drivers side for a few weeks now and i guess it's the arb bushes as it sounds the same as when the front ones were worn out. today i smelt a rubbery burning smell for a while and the steering now seems a bit 'wallowy' or vague. any ideas? i guess a trip to the garage is in order thought i could do without that this week as i have a million and one appointments to get to

Re: clunking and wallowy steering?
How is the power steering pump connected - could it be a drive belt has started to disintegrate (hence burning rubbery smell and bad steering if it's slipping)

Power steering pump is gear driven so no belts to worry about. Don't ignore the burning smell. It could be something ignificant, but if it were a drivebelt failing, then you could loose power to the water pump which would lead to overheating. Worse still, you could be looking at a safety or fire hazard.
