What is a "Side Brake Member"

Post by jimmo62 » Sat Mar 15, 2014 3:12 pm

I have the Service Manual for the 2.5 TD and in several places (e.g. page 21 Timing Belt removal) it mentions "Remove the side brake member" and refers to section B1 which is not in the translated version of the manual. Does anyone know what this side brake member is and if so, how to remove it?

You also have to remove it to get the rocker cover off, I'm guessing it's some sort of panel or strut perhaps?

In that case, its probably the centre 'saddle' that sits over the top of the engine which the handbrake and gear selector are bolted to. Remove that and you have much better access to the engine.

It will be a reference to the Engine Cover, remove the bolts/setscrews and keeping the hand brake on, position the cover between the seats hinging on the handbrake cable .
