Re: Mad as a March Hare Golden Swan: Fri 14 to Sun 16 March
Recap: I have booked all 4 EHUs for the weekend of Friday 14 March 2014 for two nights (leaving Sunday) for the “bongo meet” (not restricted to bongos). Some people will be staying until Monday. Dave (landlord) has advised that he can only accommodate a total of 10 vans (unlimited tents beyond that – see notes below). The cost will be £10.00 per night per van or £5.00 per person. Bring splitters and extension leads for the EHU and provided we’re not silly with it, will be able to keep 8 units warm of a night. http://www.thegoldenswan.co.uk/
Brilliant real ale and fantastic food. Close to Pewsey with its many pubs, the canal, The Barge Inn (famous for aliens and green beer). Dogs welcome on leads, including inside the pubs. Tap, toilets and washroom (containing a shower) available. Please note there is no chemical toilet emptying facilities available.
The pub has 3 letting rooms available inside (2 pre-booked now): 2 twin rooms and double (family) room. £50.00 based on 2 people sharing, including full English breakfast. Note there are shower and toilet facilities for guests, but these are not en suite. There is a sink in each of the rooms as well as a kettle and refreshments. Dogs are not allowed in the letting rooms.
Firepit and ozpig coming. Bring logs (ready-cut please). Paul will bring his event shelter.
Pay Dave in the pub, not me.
Unless nice and dried out, I suggest the ones requiring hardstanding park with their rearend to the pub, so we can get more on the hardstanding area, rather than in a circle. I know it's not as nice, but we want to get as many people as possible on the harder ground. If those that need hardstanding but not electric can keep to the near or far ends, that should help. Those that arrive early, please bear this in mind. Remember to bring your splitters and extensions.
Walks are being planned to along the canal to Pewsey (numerous pubs including a micro brewery) and to Honey Street (the Barge Inn) the other way. No hills involved unless you want there to be.
1. EHU & hardstanding: Chris, Gem & Girls - car & caravan (no Sunday lunch)
2. EHU & hardstanding: Crazy (Gray & Kerry) – motorhome (no Sunday lunch but Friday or Saturday night meal)
3. EHU & hardstanding: Boy from Brazil (Paul & Susie) – motorhome (no Sunday lunch)
4. EHU & near hardstanding: New Forest Terrier (Mary & Ceris) – bongo (& eriba?) (no Sunday lunch)
5. Near entrance along hedge - Sooty & Georgie & Snoopy firelogs Whisky - car & caravan (no Sunday lunch but Friday or Saturday night meal)
6. Near entrance along hedge if no space on hardstanding - Binbongoed (Geoff and Carol) - not bongo (no Sunday lunch but Saturday evening meal)
7. EHU (not essentially): Panda Bob (Bob & Sue) - bongo & caravan ozpig (no Sunday lunch but Saturday night meal maybe)
8. EHU (not essentially): Jillygumbo (& Cfor) (Fri, Sat) bongo & tent firepit ROAST
9. Bongobaz (Baz) bongo & tent ROAST
10. Bessybongo2 (Haydn) ROAST probably (& tent!)
There are 7 caravans/motorhomes booked. If Mary doesn’t bring her Eriba, only 6. Opening up to the Wild Camping forum again. Those with smaller campervans please bring a tent to make it look like you’re a car and a tent, even if you sleep in the “car” – Dave doesn’t mind as long as there’s not more than 10 bigger vans/caravans..
Staying in the pub:
John & Steff (No Sunday lunch)
Tony & Pam (No Sunday lunch)

Thanks for keeping tabs, Jilly.
If most would prefer to walk to the Barge on Saturday we will fit in.
We can either go to the wool shop early Saturday or Monday before we leave, I don't think we can do it Friday as I have a little DIY on the caravan.
Looking forward to it.

Checked in with pub again today. Drying out nicely but soft in the middle. Have told Dave that there may be a few eating Saturday night but otherwise dries and drabs!

Which entrance are we using for the pub Jilly? Is it the usual one turning left past the pub, or are we going in through the car park. Don't want to get stuck to start things off.

it'll be the usual entrance Mary. If you bring the Eriba, park with your rear end up to the pub garden or barn. If no Eriba, leave the hard standings for the biggies, but near enough if you need leccy.New Forest Terrier wrote:Which entrance are we using for the pub Jilly? I will not be bringing the Eriba, I am only staying the two nights as I have to be back for central heating engineers Monday morning. Other problems took up today and will take up most of tomorrow. So if you can find any more motor homes or caravans feel free. The storms hit hard here and the sorting out still goes on. I do need the leccy though. I would really appreciate some power.
Note for Panda Bob. Primark are selling Panda Onesies. One for Sue could accompany the Panda Song in great style. I have a green dinosaur to match my green beast.

I can hear Su encouraging me to rush out and buy one.
Thanks for the thought, though.

In that case Mary, park where I usually park (near the bonfire pile), but on the grass rather than the hard standing. Your leccy will reach ( hopefully) without cables trailing across. I'll move over because I don't need the leccy.New Forest Terrier wrote:I will not be bringing the Eriba, I am only staying the two nights as I have to be back for central heating engineers Monday morning.
