Stupid Aircon question

Post by Banjoblue » Wed Feb 26, 2014 6:32 pm

Am I right in thinking the heat comes from the engine coolant rather than a separate heater? So that you won't get warm air until the engine has warmed up?

Gesundheit! :)

Actually I was just comparing the way the Aircon works in the bongo to the one in my old 626 to check it's working as it should. The 626 can really warm things up but I struggled to get the bongo really warm on the drive home and I'm wondering why?

Also is the rear heater on?

You will need to turn it on at the rear panel, then turn on the switch by your right knee and put on the front fan.

If its digital CC then the 'rear' switch is on main control panel rather than separately to right of steering wheel.

Always possible the thermostat is stuck open or missing. My V6 gets to 40 C within 2 to 3 mins of start up to switch over to gas, but it does generally run cooler than my previous diesel.

It didn't get very warm even after an 80 mile run. Are we talking about the main engine thermostat or is there one to check on the Aircon?

Something definitely wrong there. Missing/stuck open thermostat or need to bleed are possible suspects. You could test by blanking the radiator with tinfoil to cause engine to run hotter. Car should become warmer provided heater rads don't have airlock . In theory at least. Remove foil for safety after test done. Also how long after driving does temp gauge start to move off the stop. If more than a few minutes, suspect thermostat problem.

Thanks for that advice, I'll check it later. One reason for moving on to a more modern vehicle from my old VW was to get a working heater :)
