Rear nearside speaker not working......

Hey all, wasn't sure whether to post this here or in techie

I have what seem to be the original speakers in my 1995 SGL-5 and a fairly new JVC stereo. My rear nearside speaker is not working and I would like some help sourcing the problem. Where is best to go hunting? (for loose wires etc).

So far I have pulled out the stereo and nothing seems to be loose in the wiring looms. I have also prised open the inside trim and I see the orig connector (orange+white and red wires) connected. Tried wiggling with no luck. I am unable to remove this connector easily - do I just pull downwards harder???

How would I go about measuring current through those wires to diagnose if the problem is the speaker or the wiring and where should I check first if it turns out to be wiring?

I am a complete NOVICE in wiring stereos.........

Did it work before changing the radio ?
If you have only recently put the new radio in then I would first look at the ISO to Mazda adaptor loom that was added to allow you to connect the new radio.
Your Rear nearside speakers are fed via the Orange & Yellow/Red wire in the original loom beyond the Mazda connector.
Depending on the type of adaptor some just have the ISO plug to fit the radio, and wire tails to connect to the old wiring after chopping off the old Mazda plug, in which case check how they were connected - if scotchlocks (plastic clips that have a latch) then these are always suspect!
If it was a complete adaptor with ISO wired to a Mazda socket, then this is less likely to cause a problem but check the wiring all the same.

mine didnt work either. i took out the sunken part next to the speaker to se if wires had fallen off extra to find NOTHING maybe you have no speaker too

Wow....it took me 5 months to get back to trying to fix this! Thanks for the replies. I do have a speaker. I didn't install the radio myself and I don't really understand the loom. Before I go hunting for descriptions of the loom wiring is there an easy way for me to test voltage in the orange wire that feeds the rear nearside speaker first to be sure its wiring and not a faulty speaker?

If you set a multimeter to 2V AC range then you might be able to detect a signal between orange and yellow / red. If you have a spare speaker lying around, try it directly across the wires at the back of the head unit. That's only going to prove that the output from the stereo is ok. To eliminate the loom or speaker, you need to work from the back forwards.

I would check voltage across the terminals. To check current, you would need to be in series, but if it's open circuit you'll get nothing. Alternatively, disconnect wiring from head unit and measure resistance across the wires to the speaker. It should be anything between 4 and 32 ohms. If it's 0 then you've got a short, if infinite, then it's open circuit.

Probably stating the insulting obvious, but I presume both speakers work in the front and fade hasn't just been set to one side only? Other than checking that and any obvious loose wires in the adapter loom, my advice runs out

Head unit means the radio itself (ie before the loom)? Just about to go outside and check voltage/resistance as per all your advice. Thanks!

ps yeah - its not just the fade but thanks for checking, I'm a complete novice so there is always a possibility I've done something stupid like that
