Rear Trim Removal

Does anyone know how to remove the rear side trim on a 1996 2.5td? The only post I can fund says to pull out the sprung clips but with no indication where they are?

You don't mention which of the three rear panels you want to remove, but they're all much the same. If it's either of the two rearmost panels you will need to unbolt the lower rear seat belt mount and then pull them away by pulling firmly but gently, starting at the top. The spring clips are likely to ping out and get lost. If its the o/s rear, then you'll need to loosen the o/s front first as it overlaps the rear panel. I think you may need to remove the plastic trim at the edge of the carpet by the tailgate. It's a lot easier with the seats out the van too.

Thanks, it is the o/s rear that I need to remove? Do you know if replacement clips are available? I have looked on a few websites and they do not seem to list them

You can manage with a few clips missing. Sometimes they appear on eBay when folk are breaking vans although I can't see any listed right now. They usually fall inside the wheelarch so can be fished out with a magnet.

Unless the job's an urgent one, I'd tend to wait until the weather's warm, as the plastic used in Bongo trim is VERY brittle in the cold....It needs to be over 20C inside to really be safe, or you stand a chance of breaking the mount that the spring clips seat on....with a little diligence and some plastic weld you CAN repair them.....IF you're lucky

I'm wanting to remove my plastics, as I'm upgrading my Audio system, there got to be a much simpler way to do it, I really hate these "diagrams" as I don't understand them! Why can't they just show a picture or photo and state "Remove this" or "Unclip Here "?

Maybe I'm the only one that thinks this, but they are of no benefit to me!

Nb do I have to remove the bench seats to gain access to anything?

Not sure, but be aware the middle seat is seriously heavy.

My middle bench is now in the rear as I have my bed next to it on the drivers side and use the fold over seat as a table for my TV at night time!!!!!
