2001 V6 Auto Gearbox fault

Post by i.teale » Thu Jan 30, 2014 8:55 pm

Had a reconditioned gearbox fitted to my 2001 V6 Bongo by local specialist due to the clutches slipping and damaging the plates. On testing the fault remains and is still slipping. About a month ago the D light on the dashboard stopped working, I know that the hold light can indicate a problem, It appears that the gearbox is not getting the correct signal to operate the clutches properly. Can anyone help with the following.

1. Can the Gearbox Fault Codes in the Bongo Fury Fact Sheets be used to diagnose any faults on the later Bongo's even though they say they are for the early Bongo's . If not where can I get the fault codes for the later model Bongo.

2. Does the D light not working indicate a fault somewhere that is affecting the operation of the gearbox.

3. Is the ECU a combined engine / gearbox type and if faulty where can I get a replacement or repair.

Looking forward to being back on the road.

Hi,
Not sure that I can help with all of the problems you describe, however the D light may well be just the bulb gone as I,ve had to replace the odd one now and again on my shift indicator.
If the garage has swapped your box with a reckoned one , why are you having to do the leg work to sort out the problem? Must have cost you a fare bit of money to have the work done so far. I would leave it wit the garage to solve the issues, which does sound as though it is an electrical/sensor issue rather then mechanical.
Best of luck getting it sorted out.

Cheers

Did You supply the box, if not I would have thought it was up to the Specialist to rectify the fault under guarantee (if it is still valid).

Most Specialists give one years (or mileage )guarantee.

PS regarding the D light, I would think it is just a gear/position selection indicator.
